MARVEL's Ultimate Alliance II Review

✯✯✯✯✯

I have just finished this fairly old game twice so that I could play both the Anti-Reg and the Pro-Reg stories (which, truth be told, are very similar). On the first run of the game, I chose Anti-Reg (Captain America's team), and uncovered every character except the Hulk which is a special character.
There are three special characters which can only be obtained by finding special tokens:

  • For Thor you have to find 5 of the 10 Asgardian Runes to play as him.

  • For Jean Grey you have to find 5 of the 10 M'Kraan Crystals to play as her.

  • And for Hulk, you have to find 5 of the 10 Gamma Regulator to play as him.

Most characters (with the exception of Nick Fury) have a different costume which can be obtained after defeating 50 characters. Some of the characters' costumes are obtained through choosing either Anti-reg or Pro-reg: like choosing Anti-reg and getting a new suit for Captain America, or choosing Pro-reg and getting a new suit for Iron man.

The characters that you can get new suits for if you choose Pro-reg:
  • Iron man
  • Spiderman
  • Mr Fantastic
  • Ms. Marvel
  • Songbird
  • Deadpool

The characters that you can get new suits for if you choose Anti-reg:
  • Captain America
  • Wolverine
  • Invisible Woman
  • Human Torch
  • Iron Fist
  • Luke Cage

The rest of the characters' suits (as seen below) can be unlocked at any time after choosing either side of the Civil War:

  • Daredevil
  • Gambit
  • Iceman
  • Storm
  • The Thing
  • Venom
  • Hulk
  • Jean Grey
  • Thor
  • Green Goblin
  • Penance
Overall, I think that this game is one of my favourite games that I have ever played, nearly as good as the original game (which I played with my brother and Old Man Geek when I was younger) as this game closely followed the Secret Wars and Civil War story (except for the-SPOILER ALERT- Nanite control attack) whereas the first game didn't really follow a story and just had a load of different Boss battles. I would highly recommend this game as it has some amazing gameplay and a fascinating story line.
